Prime Minister Barzani meets with German Ambassador to Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received German Ambassador to Iraq, Cyrill Nunn and German Consul-General to the Kurdistan Region, Barbara Wolf.

The delegation commended the role of the Kurdistan Region Peshmerga forces in the fight against ISIS and in protecting all communities without discrimination.

Ambassador Nunn pointed out that this fact was evident during the field visit by the German Minister of Foreign Affairs to the front-line of fighting against ISIS.

He also pointed to the construction by German government of a hospital for the treatment of members of Peshmerga forces in Erbil, which was handed over to the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs after its completion.

The delegation reiterated the continuation of Germany’s support to the Kurdistan Region.

Prime Minister Barzani thanked Germany for its military assistance to the Kurdistan Region, and praised Germany for providing this valuable gift to the Peshmerga forces.

They discussed the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad as well as the coordination between the security forces of the two sides in the areas where terrorism is likely to reemerge. Prime Minister Barzani stated that there were series of meetings between the two sides in this regard, as well as an appropriate mechanism was established for the coordination between the Peshmerga forces and Iraqi federal army.

The latest developments in the region and the ongoing talks in the Kurdistan Region to form a new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government were also discussed in the meeting.
