Prime Minister Barzani receives UK military delegation

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received the British Chief Military Advisor to the Middle East and envoy of the British Prime Minister Theresa May, Lieutenant General Sir John Lorimer, accompanied by British Ambassador to Iraq Jon Wilks and British Consul-General to the Kurdistan Region Martin Warr.

Joint security cooperation among the Kurdistan Region, Baghdad, and the international coalition were discussed. The delegation reaffirmed British interest in continuing with the international coalition to reorganize and modernize the KRG Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.

Cooperation among the Kurdistan Region, Baghdad, and the international coalition to strengthen security and stability in areas liberated from terrorism was also discussed. Cooperation between Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army, which in the past resulted in significant achievements, were stressed.

Prime Minister Barzani thanked the delegation for British military assistance to the Kurdistan Region. He expressed the willingness of the Kurdistan Region for any form of military cooperation and coordination with Baghdad and the international coalition to eliminate the threat of reemergence of terrorism.

The situation in the region and latest developments in the Middle East were also discussed.
