Prime Minister Barzani attends ground breaking ceremony of the Rovia-Gopal highway

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani attended the ground-breaking ceremony of the Rovia-Gopal highway project, accompanied by a number of Kurdistan Regional Government ministers and officials.

In a speech during the ceremony, Prime Minister Barzani said this project “will contribute to the development of the area, including the villages and towns on this road.”

He stressed that the KRG plans the implementation of similar projects in this area which will contribute to “the development of agriculture and tourism, creating job opportunities, and improving the overall economic situation of the area, that will strengthen the economy of Kurdistan in general.”

The highway that connects Rovia to Gopal will be 22 kilometers long, with six overpass road extensions. The Kurdistan Regional Government allocated about 80 million US dollars for its implementation, to be carried out by Kavin Group.

Prime Minister Barzani noted that, as the economic situation starts to recover gradually, the KRG plans to resume the implementation of its development projects, which were suspended due to the financial constrains that the Region has been going through since February 2014.
