Prime Minister Barzani receives UN delegation

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Mr. Mohammad Naciri, regional director for the Arab States for the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, and his accompanying delegation.

Mr. Neciri commended the Kurdistan Regional Government for accommodating and offering assistance to an extraordinary number of displaced people.

The delegation also expressed appreciation to the Kurdistan Region for promoting gender equality, women's rights, coexistence among its religious and ethnic communities, as well as overcoming difficult challenges.

They reaffirmed the continuation of activities of their organisation in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Prime Minister Barzani highly valued the cooperation between KRG institutions and the UN organisation. He deemed it important that it promotes gender equality, women's rights and coexistence in educational, media, and cultural programmes.

He also briefed the delegation about religious and ethnic diversity and the culture of coexistence in the Kurdistan Region, as well as the role of the KRG and the Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament in maintaining and developing this culture.

The political and economic situation of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections were also discussed.
