Economist Intelligence Unit assesses the Kurdistan Region

Erbil, Kurdistan (KRG.org) – The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a research wing of the highly regarded Economist magazine, in May completed an assessment of the Kurdistan Region on six key indices.

The report, which was based on a number of qualitative and quantitative factors, included research and analysis completed prior to the recent violence in Iraq. The Kurdistan Region scored consistently higher than Iraq as a whole on all six indices.

For example, on the ‘political stability and security’ index, the Kurdistan Region ranked 83rd in the world, whereas Iraq ranked 177th of the 181 countries analysed. The Kurdistan Region ranks 55th in ‘quality of life’, whereas Iraq ranks 134th of the 159 countries assessed in the index.
