Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received a delegation from Germany's Baden-Württemberg State (Bundesland), including Minister of Science, Research and the Arts Ms. Theresia Bauer, State Minister for Policy Coordination Ms. Theresa Schopper, Germany’s Consul General to the Kurdistan Region Ms. Barbara Wolf and a number of MPs.

The delegation commended the Kurdistan Regional Government for hosting, accommodating, and providing assistance to a large number of internally displaced persons and refugees.

They stressed Baden-Württemberg State’s desire to strengthen relations with th Kurdistan Region in various fields, particularly in the fields of education, humanitarian assistance, environment and health.

Prime Minister Barzani thanked the people and the government of Germany as well as the Baden-Württemberg State for their continued support and assistance to the Kurdistan Region particularly in the military and humanitarian fields.

He gave a brief overview on the Kurdistan Region’s fight against ISIS in the past years as well as sheltering a large number of displaced persons and refugees. He stressed the need for multilateral cooperation and coordination in order to eradicate ISIS ideology in the wider region.

He also thanked Baden-Württemberg State for its initiative to provide treatment to the Yazidi children and girls who survived ISIS onslaught, emphasizing the significant role this will play in their social reintegration. He also stressed that KRG’s efforts to save the Yazidi girls and boys are ongoing, and will continue until they are all released.

The two sides agreed to develop bilateral cooperation, not only at the governmental level, but also at the parliamentary level.
